Saturday May 3 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm is our Spring Kids Art Show of artwork that has been created in our gallery during our classes. It is a beautiful show from a very talented group of kids!
There will be light refreshments, face painting, music and some fun activities for all. 
Collins Artworks has been voted #1 the Best Of Art Classes 2014 in the region by The Item readers. The Item is a regional local newspaper. This is the third year in a row. Thank you all who voted for us. Congrats to all!
Sign up now for April school vacation camp. The theme is the movie "Frozen". We will be drawing and painting from the movie, making pop up books about landscapes of ice and snow, making mud clay characters from the movie and the landscape where they live and so much more.

Additional Information:

The children will use several methods and media to produce their works of art such as watercolor, tempera paint, acrylic paint, oil pastels, cray-pas, colored pencils, watercolor crayons, markers, clay- pottery and sculptor, batik, model magic, foam core, crayons, handmade textured papers, pen and ink etc. While having fun, the kids will learn basic art theory - line, positive/negative space, composition, and color. Creative play acting is part of this fun learning experience.

Each lesson is taught according to the developmental level of each child. A registered nurse will be available.We have a trained staff in art education, CPR and first aid. If your child has a special health care need please speak to the program director.

Please pack a snack and drink for your child. Also no peanut products are allowed at art camp.

Kids Art Camp Schedule:

  • 8 AM - 9 AM: Extended Day students arrive
  • 9 AM - 11:15 AM: Structured Art project
  • 11:30 AM- 12 noon: Snack time for the AM group and Lunch time for the full day students
  • Recess. Students go to the playground or other inside activity. If you don't want your child out to play, please speak to the program director. Remember the sunscreen!
  • 12 Noon: Morning Students leave
  • 12 Noon to 2 PM: Structured Art project 
  • 2 PM- 3 PM, recess and snack time
  • 3 PM: Students leave
  • 3 PM- 4 PM- Extended afternoon students stay. Ask director if you need a later pick up.

Tuition:

Camp runs Monday, April 21 through Friday, April  25, 2014. Half day (9 AM to noon): $90; Full day (9 AM to 3 PM): $160. AM extended day is $20 for the week and extended day PM is $20 for the week. A discount is given to families registering more than 1 child for the full day weekly program. There is no discount for the half day program and or if registering late for a session. Sign up early and get great savings of 10% by March 15.  Sibling discount doesn't apply if 10% discount applied. Please see sidebar refund policy regarding withdrawals prior to camp week.

The 2014 Collins Artworks Summer Art Camp offers 7 exciting, fun and educational weeks of theme-based art instruction for kids of all ages. For more information, or to register, call us or stop in at the gallery. 

Week 1A, July 7 - 11, 2014: Beginner drawing and Zentangle for kids.

Your child will use a variety of media, such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, and pen and ink. Students will learn about perspective, proportion, light and shadow, composition, and relationships between objects in a summer camp experience that emphasizes both drawing skills and personal expression. Zentangle┬« is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is fun, relaxing, and anyone can use it to create beautiful pieces of art!  Your child will learn some basics of the tangles to create beautiful pieces.

A trip to Rota Springs is planned for Thursday to draw the cows and have some delicious ice cream!

Week 1B,  July 7 - 11, 2014: Frozen.

The kids will use different media to create their own "frozen wasteland." They will use clay to create some of the characters from the movie, Frozen. They will make their own book, writing their own "Frozen" story from this past winter. They will paint winter landscapes with special glitter paint and so much more.

A trip to Rota Springs is planned for Thursday to draw the cows and place them in a winter landscape, all while enjoying ice cream!

Week 2, July 14 - 18, 2014:  Night At The Museum: Time Traveler.

You are visiting a museum and all of a sudden you are transported to a Medieval Castle. You walk around, carefully exploring the castle, and you see a dragon! Then you are transported to a ship on the open seas. Every day you are transported to a new time and place.

The students will explore drawing, painting and clay work with 10 different projects selected from the time of the Renaissance, pirates, Egypt, China, Australia, Africa, pottery, sculpting, ocean paintings, ship building, Rembrandt, Monet and the Impressionists, Russian Icons, Medieval art, dragons, and more.

A field trip to the Russian Icon Museum  is planned. Creative play acting is part of this fun learning  experience. Come become a museum time traveler! 

Week 3, July 21 - 25, 2014: The Hunger Games.

We will break into two teams; each team will work together to draw animals and scenery from an untouched world. They will use their imaginations to come up with this fantasy world. They will learn how to make their own portraits and draw and paint costumes on their portraits from the Hunger Games. They will paint 3D landscapes. They will work with clay to make their own hunger game mini animals. Students will study the work of movie artists and use what they learn to create works of art using similar methods and techniques. They will also see works of art by the famous bird painter, Audubon. Each team will compete for prizes to be awarded at the end of the week.

Creative play acting is part of this fun learning experience.  

A trip to the EcoTarium in Worcester is planned for the week. We will be drawing the wild life and science stations. Total price is $15 (admission cost is $7; planetarium admission is $5 per person and the train ride is $3). 

Week 4,  July 28 - August 1, 2014: Superheroes (All new).

Come and learn to draw and paint superheroes.  Learn and create art from the movies. Create your own superhero like the pros. Learn how to draw cars and make your own Transformer. Learn about the superheroes in the art world that transformed art. We will transform plastic into art by making sculpture inspired by Chihuly. We will also learn about the superhero masters who made a difference in the advancement of art: artists like Monet, Sargent, Chihuly, Pollack, and others.

A trip to the Worcester Art Museum is planned for Thursday. We will be drawing in the galleries.

Week 5, August 4 - 8, 2014: Movie Making Experience, Week 1.

You are an artist at a movie studio, hired to make a clay animation movie. The students will write a story using a story board, set design, costuming, create clay models, and use human acting to animate the story, photograph each frame, finally combining the frames into a movie. The students will practice writing and drawing skills to create the story and models while learning the basic principles of animation. The movie will include segments with human acting that is filmed in stop motion frames and incorporated into the movie with the clay animation. Students will also incorporate special sound effects into the movie. The students will learn how claymation and human stop motion frames are made into a movie using professional animation movie making software. Creative play acting is part of this fun learning experience. 

The Strand Theater in Clinton will be showing our completed movie before one of the feature films shown the following weekend of camp. We will let you know date and time once the schedule is set with the theater.

Admission into the theater will be paid for by Collins Artworks for your child and two guests. All other guests have to pay for their own tickets. A DVD of the movie will be given to each student.

(Tuition for this week is $175 for full day and $105 for the half day program.)

Week 6, August 11 - 15, 2014:   Movie Making Experience, Week 2.

This is week 2 of the movie making experience. This week each child will also be producing cartoon using white board animation and claymation together to make a movie.

Week 7, August 18 - 22, 2014: Mindcraft: Knights, Ladies, Kings and Queens.

We will make our own Mindcraft world out of mud clay squares. The world will be made out of clay blocks. The time period is the time of knights, ladies, kings and queens. The students will create castles, Mindcraft style, and Mindcraft knights, ladies, king and queen. They will also paint their world by making separate painted blocks to create their own self-portraits with colorful costumes. They will learn how to draw horses and then make them, Mindcraft style. Creative play acting is part of this fun learning experience.

A trip to the Russian Icon Museum in Clinton is planned for Wednesday.

Tom Feller's unique manipulated Polaroid images are on display at The Thai Time Restaurant 80 Church St. Clinton, MA from March 1 through April 30, 2014. The pictures are printed on fine art paper and framed. They are for sale for $45 each. All sales will be donated to kids with Autism fund.

Have fun with your friends creating your own acrylic or watercolor painting on canvas using a painting off our wall as a guide. You will have two choices either a landscape or floral. The group gets to vote on which painting is chosen.The instructor will show you how to create the painting step by step. A complimentary glass of wine is provided, or you can bring your own bottle of wine. All painting supplies are included in the fee. $25 to $35 per person for an evening of great fun!. Group rates are available.

Adult painting parties can be booked for an afternoon or evening except Wednesdays. There is no paint parties booked on Friday afternoons 1 pm to 5:15 pm. Parties are planned for 5 or more participants at a time. One or two participants can join a forming party. If you want to form your own group party call to book. Information about our instructor:

Sheryll Collins is co-owner of Collins Artworks, award winning artist and teacher. Her paintings can be found in private homes, offices, hospitals and clinics all over the state. She is known for her colorful impressionistic style. She is an award winning art teacher of students of all ages.

Sheryll is a mother of 6 and a grandmother of 15 grandchildren. She also is a registered nurse working with pregnant and parenting teens in southern Worcester county. She makes her home in Clinton with her husband and 2 grandchildren.

Description: A drawing class for beginning and intermediate students. Students will be taught basic drawing skills using a variety of tools with a focus on shading, gesture drawing and understanding of form. Specific techniques will be covered: the use of construction lines, shapes and grids
