"Twins," The Watercolor Paintings of Sherry and Sharon

"Twins," The Watercolor Paintings By Sheryll Collins and Sharon Carloni July 1- 31, 2007 at the Art On Rotation Gallery at Clark's Cafe 310 High St. Clinton.

Sheryll (Sherry) and Sharon are identical twins. They grew up in Brockton, MA and attended numerous art programs both public and private. In college both went in different directions, one to an art degree program in education and the other into a RN program for professional nursing. Sherry is a registered nurse and works with children with developmental disabilities. Sharon is an art teacher in an elementary school in Hudson. She also has her masters in special education. Sharon has continued to pursue her art and Sherry has come back to painting after many years of raising a large family. They each are married with children. Sherry is also the proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren. Sharon resides in Norfolk, MA. Sherry makes her home in Clinton.

Sherry and Sharon have been in many juried art shows in Massachusetts. Recently, Sharon was honored as the Massachusetts Elementary Art Teacher of the year for 2007. Sherry started the Art On Rotation Gallery this past December to further artistic awareness in the community and to provide a place for artists to showcase their work. She also runs 2 art instruction classes in the basement of her home with renowned local artist- teacher, Kat O'Connor. She is also busy helping with the planning of the Clinton Olde Home Day Juried Art Show in September.

Both Sherry and Sharon paint in other media than watercolor although watercolor is their favorite. Both love painting the outdoors but Sherry also loves to capture a treasured moment with her grandchildren. Together they present their different styles of painting for your enjoyment.

A reception for the artists was held on Saturday July 14, 2007 from 12 noon-2 pm.

Our First "One Man" Show

Sherry and I are having our first "one man" show in April. A collection of approximately twenty five of our watercolors, half mine and half hers, the show is titled "The Two Of Us," it will run from April 5 through May 1, 2007, at the First Show Gallery at CC Lowell, 258 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA.

An artists' reception will be held at the gallery on April 7, 2007, from 1 PM to 3 PM.

Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 7 PM, Thursday, 9 AM to 8 PM, Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, 12 PM to 4 PM.

Note that 10% of the proceeds from any sales from the show will be donated to the Paul Wilgoren Baseball Scholarship Fund.

In case you're interested, here's the artist's statement I wrote for the show, which briefly explains our perspective on the show's theme, "The Two Of Us".

The Two Of Us

When Sherry and I met thirty four years ago, our mutual love for art was a major part of what attracted us to each other. Ironically, though art drew us together, we did very little with it until two years ago when we made the fateful decision to take a watercolor class at the Worcester Art Museum.

We’ve been painting up a storm ever since, taking one class after another with the same wonderful teacher, Kat O’Connor. We’ve been developing our skills together, often tackling the same subjects and struggling with the same problems, influencing each other, yet remaining distinct. We keep each other going, inspiring and encouraging each other.

As for Kat’s classes, we’ve taken three at the Worcester Art Museum, and three at our home. Out of these classes, a small yet vital group of fellow artists and friends has developed. We paint together, encourage each other, visit museums together, and just have fun together. We owe much of our continuing progress as artists to their influence and friendship.

As you can see as you view our show, our styles are similar, yet distinct, reflecting our differing personalities and interests, yet inevitably expressing the unity that comes from thirty three years of marriage. Sherry paints with great sensitivity and subtlety, building up her images with numerous small brushstrokes and delicate washes, while I paint boldly, often aggressively, using layers to build strong value contrasts and intense color. Sherry has most recently been experimenting with shape and the use of negative space to enhance her compositions, while I’ve been pushing my use of color, size and value to achieve even more boldness.

We hope you enjoy our show and thank you for coming.

Welcome!

Welcome to collinsartworks.com, the official place to go for the artwork of Stephen and Sheryll Collins (hereafter called Steve & Sherry). As time goes by, we'll be adding galleries of our work and anything art-related that we think is important enough to post. This will happen a little at a time, so we apologize for the current lack of content. In the meantime, check out our other sites:

Steve's web site, blivets.com, is the current location of Steve & Sherry's watercolor galleries, along with an eclectic mix of other content.

Our sister site, aorgallery.com, is devoted to our business (more Sherry's than Steve's, actually), the Art On Rotation Gallery.

Finally, Sherry's site, specialneedsnurse.org, is dedicated to special needs nursing, a testament to her other life as a registered nurse.

We hope you make a habit of visiting us here.

Thanks and God bless!
